TAMPA, Fla. -- Edmonton forward Evander Kane was cut on the left wrist by a skate blade Tuesday night and taken to the hospital with a frightening injury during the Oilers' 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Oilers said Kane was in stable condition and scheduled to undergo a procedure Tuesday night.
"The news that I've received so far -- it's very limited -- is that he's in a good spot," Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. "He's getting well taken care of."
Kane got tangled with Lightning defenseman Philippe Myers just inside the Edmonton defensive zone and while on the ice was cut by Tampa Bay forward Pat Maroon's skate blade 3 minutes, 27 seconds into the second period.
"You cringe when you see that," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "It was tough to see. Hopefully he's going to be OK because, you know, hockey, you battle against each other. It's a war, [but] we're still a family."
Kane grabbed the lacerated area with his right hand and rushed to the bench before heading for the locker room.
"It's scary, certainly scary," Oilers star Connor McDavid said. "I think you could feel the energy in the entire rink kind of just get sucked out. We're thinking about him. We're hearing he's doing OK, but that's obviously initial."

It was cut from his own blade? So scary and dangerous, I hope he's fine.

Faaak...I remember when I think Ryan Miller of some goalie in Buffalo got his neck cut open by skate blade while falling over each other...luckily the guy survived...

Yikes. He knew immediately. Man that’s hard to watch for some reason. Those blades are sharp AF

Wasn’t it a Buffalo goalie maybe late 80’s got sliced up. And a Florida Panthers player had a nasty one also I Believe. Going into the boards a players skate comes up falling and just gashes the players neck

Believe it was another goalie years before Miller but definitely buffalo goalie

I’d heard the Sabres trainer was some Vietnam medic. Slice the jug in the neck and the guy basically rams his fingers in his neck to find the vein and pinched it. The ice was an absolute puddle of blood. Whoever the trainer was is definitely a quick thinking bad ass.

Oilers' Evander Kane out 3-4 months after skate blade cuts wrist.

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane will miss three to four months after being cut on the left wrist by a skate blade, the team announced Wednesday.
The injury occurred during Edmonton's 3-2 win at Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.
Kane, 31, got tangled with Lightning defenseman Philippe Myers just inside the Edmonton defensive zone and while on the ice was cut by Tampa Bay forward Pat Maroon's skate blade 3 minutes, 27 seconds into the second period.
Kane was transported to a hospital and underwent a procedure Tuesday night. The team placed him on long-term injured reserve Wednesday.
Kane, who signed a four-year, $20.5 million contract with the Oilers in the offseason, has five goals and eight assists over 13 games this season.
"Thank you all for the kind wishes and prayers from over the past several hours," Kane said Wednesday in a statement. "Obviously last night was an extremely scary moment for me and I'm still in a little bit of shock.
"I would like to thank the entire training staff of the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning, along with the all the doctors and paramedics who rushed to help treat and repair my injury. Without all of you, I know things would've been much worse and I'm sincerely grateful."
The Oilers said forwards Mattias Janmark and Klim Kostin have been recalled from the AHL's Bakersfield Condors.
